BTS's Jungkook records the Biggest Debut Week by a Korean & K-Pop Soloist on Spotify Global with "Stay Alive"

BTS's Jungkook has become unstoppable since his single 'Stay Alive,' which is an unpromoted webtoon OST, is released under his own name on Spotify. He has been setting new records in history with the song.

Stay Alive debuted at many countries' and Global Spotify Top Songs Weekly Charts as it completed its debut week today. Jungkook earns the Biggest Debut Week Streams by both Korean & K-Pop Soloists on Spotify Global at #10 with over 18.8M filtered streams, followed by Lisa's LALISA and Rose' On The Ground. It's a huge achievement on its own that an unpromoted webtoon OST has overtaken official solo debuts with proper albums, MVs, and promotions.

Stay Alive also achieved the highest debut position on Spotify Global Weekly Chart for a Korean/Kpop Soloist, along with Rose.

Everyone is anxiously waiting for Jungkook's official solo debut and his first mixtape.

On February 16, BTS’ Jungkook became the only Asian act to have the most number of followers on Spotify in the first 24 hours, with 5,73,410. He also recorded more than 1 Million monthly listeners in one day with just one single 'Stay Alive.' Previously, the webtoon and web novel '7FATES: CHAKHO' OST Stay Alive (Prod. SUGA of BTS) sung by BTS’ Jungkook and produced by Suga was released through music sites and platforms around the world.

'Stay Alive' showed overwhelming music power, occupying the top spot for '5 days in a row' on the global music platform iTunes' Worldwide iTunes Song Chart (as of February 15). This is a great record for Jungkook to top the iTunes Worldwide Song Chart for 5 days in a row as a Korean idol solo 'first'.

'Stay Alive' also topped the Worldwide and European iTunes Song Charts simultaneously for '4 days in a row' from the 11th to the 14th. Also, 'Stay Alive' topped the iTunes Top Songs Chart in Gambia on the 14th. In particular, 'Stay Alive' showed great power by breaking the number one spot on the iTunes Top Song charts in 104 countries for the 'shortest' solo song ever in 3 days and 8 hours after its release.

According to representatives for MRC Data, when “Stay Alive” begins appearing on Billboard charts in a few days (the rankings usually begin to roll out on Monday and then all of them are published on Tuesday, but this coming Monday is a holiday, so the lists will likely be delayed), the tune will only be credited to Jung Kook. As a producer and songwriter, Suga will certainly earn some form of credit, but he won’t be labeled as an artist on the tune.

This difference may sound small, but when it comes to chart history, it does matter. Suga has appeared on the Hot 100 several times with solo projects, once with that moniker. Those wins helped him make Billboard history first as one of the only South Korean stars to place on the competitive tally on his own, and then as one of an even smaller group to do so twice. As an artist, “Stay Alive” won’t count toward his growing list of achievements, though he should still be proud of the future win, should it reach the ranking.

Whether producers earn credit as artists can sometimes be confusing, and it depends on the musician. For example, when Max Martin produced Coldplay and BTS’s “My Universe,” he earned credit as a behind-the-scenes producer and songwriter, but not as an artist. In contrast to that way of doing things, people like DJ Khaled and Calvin Harris are often named as both the producer and artist, even though they usually don’t speak or sing a single word on their hits (or maybe just one or two, when it comes to Khaled). It’s simply a matter of how releases are labeled from the beginning.

“Stay Alive” may very well end up as one of the bestselling songs in the U.S. next week, and it could easily not only debut on the Hot 100, but score an impressive and lofty placement. The smash will likely bring Jung Kook to new heights on some Billboard lists, while he’ll almost surely land his first appearance on a number of rankings as well, making history in the process.

DSP Media has officially announced APRIL’s disbandment.

On January 28, the agency released the following statement:

We are informing you that our artist APRIL has disbanded.

After a long period of discussion and debate, our agency and the APRIL members decided to have the group disband and go their separate ways.

We ask that you give lots of support and interest to the six members, who will be walking a new path that is not part of APRIL.

Furthermore, we would like to once again thank the fans who supported and cheered on APRIL for the past six years.

Earlier this week, RBW announced that they had acquired DSP Media and would be taking over the agency at the end of March.

APRIL first made their debut in 2015, and the group’s last comeback was in 2020, when they released their special album “Hello Summer.”

K-pop girl group APRIL has officially disbanded after six years, according to an official statement made by their agency DSP Media on Friday, January 28.

DSP Media said that the decision for the girls to “go their separate ways” came “after a long period of discussion and debate” between the agency and members.

“We ask that you give lots of support and interest to the six members, who will be walking a new path that is not part of APRIL,” DSP Media said, thanking the fans who “supported and cheered on APRIL” for the past six years.

APRIL is comprised of members Chaekyung, Chaewon, Naeun, Yena, Rachel, and Jinsol. The group debuted in 2015 with their first EP Dreaming and single “Dream Candy.” The South Korean act’s latest comeback was in July 2020 for their album Hello Summer.

The group faced backlash in February 2021 after online posts claimed that APRIL’s members bullied former member Hyunjoo, which led to her departure.

K-pop girl group APRIL have officially disbanded, according to their agency DSP Media.

Earlier today (January 28), DSP Media announced the K-pop act’s disbandment in a statement to South Korean news outlet SPOTV News. It comes just under a year after several members of the group were accused of allegedly bullying former member Lee Hyun-joo.

Several members of APRIL, including Naeun, Jinsol and Chaewon, have personally denied the allegations made against them by Lee. Additionally, DSP Media also had taken legal action against Lee and her family for defamation at the time.

“After a long period of discussion and debate, our agency and the APRIL members decided to have the group disband and go their separate ways,” DSP said, as translated by Soompi. “We ask that you give lots of support and interest to the six members, who will be walking a new path that is not part of APRIL.”

The company also thanked fans who have supported the group for “the past six years”, following their debut in 2015. It is currently still unclear if all former APRIL members are still contracted under DSP Media.

APRIL’s last release was their 2020 single album ‘Hello Summer’, which featured the title track ‘Now Or Never’. That project was the follow-up to the girl group’s breakout release ‘Lalalilala’ from earlier that same year, which peaked at number 40 on the Gaon Digital Chart.

Following the bully accusations in March 2021, Naeun was cut from the then-upcoming K-drama series Taxi Driver. “About 60 per cent of the filming has been completed, but we have decided to replace Naeun with another actress after talking with her management company,” Studio S said.

“We will reshoot all the scenes with the new actress,” it added. “We ask for your understanding… we will wisely use the remaining time to produce an interesting series for you.”
