As mentioned above, Hector Tanajara Jr. of San Antonio, Texas will face fellow Golden Boy contender William Zepeda of San Mateo Atenco, Mexico in a 10-round lightweight battle.
In the main event, light heavyweight contenders Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (41-0, 27 KOs) and Sullivan Barrera (22-3, 14 KOs) meet in a non-title ten-rounder.
Golden Boy is proud to announce two spectacular additions to the Zurdo vs. Barrera undercard as Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada (20-0, 8 KOs) challenges Tenkai Tsunami (28-12-1, 16 KOs) for the WBO Light Flyweight Championship and Hector Tanajara Jr. (19-0, 5 KOs) faces William “El Camaron” Zepeda (22-0, 20 KOs) in a lightweight clash.
The event will take place on Friday, July 9 at Banc of California Stadium in Downtown Los Angeles and will be streamed live on DAZN.
“When it comes to undercards, nobody does it better than we do,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy. “For all of us at Golden Boy, it is very important for fans to get their money’s worth when attending our events or watching from the comforts of their home. That’s why we are committed to providing a full night of competitive action featuring the likes of Seniesa Estrada, Hector Tanajara Jr., William Zepeda and many more.”
Estrada is a 28-year-old world champion from East Los Angeles, California whose immediate goal is to capture gold in three divisions.
After winning her major title in March, a unanimous decision over Anabel Ortiz to capture the Women's WBA Minimumweight title, Seniesa Estrada had plans of wanting to remain at 105 pounds and collect more gold.
However, a title unification couldn't be made, so Estrada decide to venture up to 108 and challenge Tenkai Tsunami for the Women's WBO Junior Flyweight championship on Friday night in the Gilberto Ramirez-Sullivan Barrera undercard from the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles. The entire main card can be streamed exclusively on DAZN.
Zurdo Ramirez: “This Friday, we are going to put on a great show. I know Sullivan Barrera very well and he knows me. We know that each of us always comes well prepared and ready to put on a show. But at the end of the day, I’ll be the one to come out with my hands raised in victory. I’m going to come out with a record of 42 wins and 28 knockouts.”
Former IBF middleweight champion Sam “King” Soliman (46-15-1, 19 KOs) returns to action on Saturday against unbeaten Liberian-born, Australian-based Victor “Hot Chilli” Nagbe (3-0-0) over ten rounds at the Melbourne Pavillion, Flemington, Victoria, Australia.
Soliman, 47, is coming off an eight round decision loss to former WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika in March. Soliman captured the IBF middleweight belt in 2014, defeating Felix Sturm. He lost the title to Jermaine Taylor in the same year.
I’m expecting an all-out war, man. I think we’re going to go out there and trade blows in a technical way, not just sloppily trading blows. I’m really going to showcase my full talent, my power, my precision, my accuracy in my punches, my placement and counterpunches. I’m ready for whatever it is he brings to the table. If he thinks that he can overwhelm me with his power, so be it. Let’s test the water and I’m going to make him feel my shots. I’ve fought two of the best boxers in the game already, Tevin Farmer and Gary Russell Jr. I feel like the experience I gained with those guys will allow me to adjust to whatever Fortuna tries to bring to the table.
After this fight, I want everybody to place me high in the 135-pound division. I’m fighting the boogeyman that everyone has ducked. I’m going to go out there and really demolish this guy. A lot of people are afraid of him, but I know what I’m capable of doing. And I’m going to go out there and execute a really good game plan and go perform at my best and put on a spectacular performance. I’m just going to let everybody judge after the fight. I’ll let people do the talking and I’m going to let my work do the talking.
I adore everything about that kid. Now that I have something that I’m looking after, and someone that depends on me to take care of them, it’s extremely motivating. Fatherhood is the best thing that’s ever happened to my life. I put that over everything, my career included. My son is my everything and he’s the most to me. I know that in order for me to be the best father, I have to take care of everything that I can within my professional career, so that my son could have the best life possible.
I like this one a lot. It’s well-matched, Diaz is showing a lot of fire and desire taking this in Ryan Garcia’s place, and he’s moving up in weight here. Fortuna isn’t some monster lightweight — he’s fairly small at the weight, actually, and like Diaz started at 126, stopped at 130, and came to 135. So physically I think it works, too.
I’m going with Fortuna to edge this one. I think it’s around a 50/50 fight, at least close to that, and I do think Diaz at his best is a very good fighter. Fortuna, like Diaz, can be a “streaky” fighter, a little inconsistent, but also very talented and at his best, a danger to just about anyone. I think Fortuna nicks this on the cards in a very competitive fight. If both of them show up in good form, it could be a fantastic fight to watch. Fortuna SD-12
Javier Fortuna is a good technical fighter but I haven’t exactly been in awe of his recent opposition, and frankly think he’s a little too long in the tooth to take a win over Diaz here. I think Diaz has learned from his loss to Gary Russell Jr and won’t find himself in a lull where he can just afford to mail in a good performance, taking his preparation very seriously. I do think this fight will turn out to be a much better action fight than Zurdo-Barrera, and I think Fortuna might even have some moments, but I think Diaz will utilize enough effective aggression to get the nod from judges in a majority of the rounds. I don’t think Diaz will get Fortuna out of there, so I’m just going to take Diaz to win the fight on the cards. Diaz UD-12
The more I research this matchup, the more I like it. If both men come out sharp, there’s some serious entertainment potential here and a delightful contrast between Diaz’s fundamentally sound pressure and Fortuna’s full-bore swings. Barring a home run from the Dominican, though, I see Diaz ultimately getting the better of things. He’s got the stronger schedule, the tighter punches, the more reliable durability, and an overall edge in consistency despite his repeated mishaps on the scale.
Oh absolutely. I’m not taking Fortuna lightly. I know he is one of my toughest opponents to date. These guys really haven’t felt my power and they really haven’t felt the 100 percent “JoJo” going into a fight. For the Tevin Farmer fight, I was about 85-90 percent, and I did a really good job. People loved the way I fought that one. I feel like now my whole body is good. I don’t have any injuries, I don’t have to cut as much weight, I’ve built a lot of strength.
I feel like it’s going to be the best performance of my career. It’s going to set that standard and make a statement to all the 135 pounders. I know Javier is a dangerous opponent, but I want to take on the toughest challenges. I want to challenge myself both physically and mentally. That way, when I do accomplish these goals, it will all be worth it.
I’m really comfortable now, man. Especially knowing that I fought five lefties in a row. I kind of don’t know how to fight a damn orthodox fighter now. I gotta get used to that again. That’s a key factor for me going into the fight, Fortuna is an awkward southpaw. He likes to throw punches from different angles, but it’s going to be very beneficial for me knowing that I have gained all that experience fighting all these southpaws. I feel like the punches he’s landed on previous opponents, he’s not going to be able to do that with me because I already know his punching positions, his foot positions and where he’s going to be throwing punches, thanks to all the experience that I’ve had fighting southpaws.
Thank you. "Sugar" Ray Leonard is my all-time favorite fighter. I've read his book over 20 times. In the book, he talks about how when he was a kid, his trainer and everyone in the gym used to call him "Super Bad" because he was super bad. So him being my favorite fighter, I just thought it was an awesome and different name. Then my trainer was like, 'Your nickname is Super Bad. Instead of walking out with the robe, you should wear a cape.' That's how it started.

You look at women's boxing right now, and you have seen Clarissa Shields bounce over into MMA, and she's going to try to do both. What do you make of Clarissa trying to juggle and do both sports?
I think that's great. She accomplished all that she wanted to accomplish in her weight division and in women's boxing. So why not go out and give herself another challenge and hopefully make more money there than she was boxing. MMA is tough. Watching her last fight was really cool, seeing how she had to overcome that first round. A lot of people thought that it was going to be over. A lot of people doubted her. But she came back, and she won. I think it's great. I have thought about transitioning into MMA, but not now. Boxing is my life right now, and things are starting to take off for me. I have so many goals that I want to accomplish in boxing first.
You talk about a move to MMA someday. Is it because you're a fan of the sport, or is it because Clarissa is saying is that, for reasons that a lot of us still can't comprehend, the lack of pay disparity between the women and the men made her go over to MMA?
I think a couple of years back, it was just the discouragement and the doubt that I had in boxing. That's what made me think differently and want to maybe transition to MMA. But now, things are coming together for me, and Golden Boy has been doing such an amazing job at making me happy and doing all the things that that they need to do to make sure that I'm secure and to make sure that I still have this determination and encouragement to stick to boxing and to keep fighting and to believe in boxing. Golden Boy is doing an awesome job at that. I'm definitely staying here.
You're ranked among the top pound-for-pound women's fighters in the world. We've talked about the struggle in the past for you to get to where you're at. What did does that mean to you to now being considered among the best women's fighters in the world?
It's crazy. It's an indescribable feeling. It's been my goal and dream since I was a kid to go down as one of the best fighters in history. To be recognized in the pound-for-pound list now is great. This is just the beginning. I have so many big fights to win and so many belts to win. I just feel like it's just the start, but it means so much to me because the struggle to get to where I am today has been insane. I can talk for hours about different struggles. There's more bad than good. The passion that I have for the sport is never giving up on myself and never giving up on my dreams.
Estrada is a 28-year-old world champion from East Los Angeles, California whose immediate goal is to capture gold in three divisions. In March, she faced Anabel “La Avispa” Ortiz to capture the WBA Minimumweight World Title. Now, she looks to capture a belt a 108 pounds to be one step closer to achieving her goal.
