Ford is increasing its factory investment in Thailand. US producers pour in $900 million, or about Rp 12.9 trillion. (Exchange rate 1 USD = 14,535 rupees)
More than half of the $900 million will be spent on improving the Ford Thailand Manufacturing (FTM) plant in Rayong and at AutoAlliance, a joint venture with Mazda Motor in Thailand. It will be used to repair and upgrade supply chain networks.
Ford will add a second shift to the FTM plant, which will also build the Everest SUV. A total of 1,250 new jobs are expected to be created, which will increase the number of employees in Thailand to more than 9,000.
The company, which can produce about 270,000 vehicles a year in Thailand, says 60% of its production is exported to Asia-Pacific markets such as Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines. Production of the new Ranger will begin in Thailand and South Africa as early as next year.
